As you enjoy reading our summer book, you will be completing creative activities. You can use online tools or you can do it with paper /pencil. Remember that guides on how to use digital tools are on our guides page.

ACTIVITY 1 - DEFEND YOU CHARACTER
TASK 1: Assume a role of one of the characters and create a presentation defending their innocence.
HOW DO I DO THIS? MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE THIS ACTIVITY BEFORE YOU BEGIN CHAPTER 23!!!! 1. Study the characters (using the character chart below). Then pick one character to defend. 2. Use a graphic organizer below to brainstorm why this character could not be a murderer. This may be because they have no reason, or because they cannot do it physically, or because they are too nice, or because they were somewhere else. Use the evidence in text to support your ideas. 3. Look at the rubric below to understand requirements 4. Use any tech or non tech way to present your defense ( you can find tech guides and ideas on the GUIDES page) 5. You will bring your presentation to the 1st day of school

TASK 2: Use text evidence to create a character profile for your characters.
HOW DO I DO THIS? 1. Review the character traits on this web page 2. As you read, complete a character trait graphic organizer 3. Use the rubric below to understand requirements 4. Create character trading cards for 5 of your favorite characters ( you can use index card or you can do it digitally at http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/trading_cards_2/) 4. Bring your cards and graphic organizer to school the first week. you will be using these to learn about your own learner profile. NOTE: If you do not use digital tools, please create your trading cards using index cards or just regular notebook paper |

TASK 3: students will use mystery graphic organizers to follow the plot using textual evidence.
HOW DO I DO THIS?
1. Review the mystery genre on our web site
2. As you read the book, identify the parts of the mystery genre that you found in text
3. Use the rubric below to understand requirements
4. Create a mystery cube using http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/cube_creator/.
5. Bring your mystery cubes ( on flash drive or printed) to school the first week.
